By Tom Bejgrowicz (a.k.a. Mr. B.), faculty member in the Graphic Design department

As a faculty member, my favorite moments of any academic year are when I play a role – no matter how big or small – in a creative breakthrough with a student and their work. To witness these energizing moments of inspiration and artistic evolution is something I truly cherish. In turn, these occasions inspire me in my own creative works throughout the entire year.

Such moments take many forms.  It can be when designers work with their first-ever "real life" client on a new visual identity.  For example, our students worked with Aaron's Acres, a non-profit program that provides programs for children with developmental disabilities, and stepped up to the plate with professionalism and passion for the client. (See the full story and the end product on our News page.)

On other occasions, students of all majors discovered new depths to their creative selves through alternative methods and challenging, introspective thought processes in Art & Agitation and Type As Art, or breaking the mold for what is expected of them in Experimental Package Design.

There were many break-through moments with the students this past academic year that will not soon be forgotten.

At the 2013 Designathon are (from left to right) Tom Bejgrowicz,

Belcher '13, and Stephanie Choy '15.
