Developing your unique creative vision
Self motivated and independent thinkers, fine arts majors at Pennsylvania
College of Art & Design are urged to develop these traits through
focused courses in painting, drawing and printmaking. A recent enhancement
to the fine arts program is an emphasis on conceptual development through
the command of skills and materials. This component relays practical information
to students about the business of art and incorporates a substantial distribution
requirement in the applied arts. We are confident that this enhanced curriculum
will better prepare our fine arts graduates for the traditional career
of an exhibiting artist, to further their education at the graduate level,
or to begin to pursue employment in related applied art fields.
The faculty of the Fine Arts department are all working artists who exhibit
nationally, serve as professional art judges, publish illustrations, and
design products. They will inspire you to develop an individual creative
vision through small classes and individualized instruction.
Trained to make accurate decisions about their work, careers for visual
artists will only be limited by the willingness to explore and learn about
them. With the impact of technology on our culture, many new opportunities
are now available and many more are waiting for you to invent them!
Careers for fine artists include:
Exhibition and sale of work
Gallery
management
Art restoration and preservation
Arts administration
Teaching
Theater set design
Muralist
Photographer or photo-stylist
Surface designer for products, fabrics, and furnishings
