Mural Painting Certificate Program

Public Art Through this series of courses, artists will learn about the basic materials and techniques used to create large-scale interior and exterior paintings, in addition to learning how to manage and coordinate a community mural project.

Here are some of the topics students will learn about:
• image development
• surface preparation
• image enlargement
• selecting paint and materials
• organizing a community-based mural project

Required Courses for Summer Mural Painting Certificate Program:
(2 one-credit courses and 1 non-credit workshop)
• PTG 197, Mural Painting: Methods & Materials
• PTG 198, Introduction to Mural Painting
• WS 13, Coordinating a Mural Project Workshop

Required Courses for Online Mural Painting Certificate Program:
(2 one-credit courses)
• PTG 199, Mural Painting Online: Methods & Materials
• PTG 200, Mural Painting Online: Independent Study

Requirements for successful completion of the Mural Painting Certificate Program:
• submit a Mural Painting Certificate Program application and fee
• submit a personal statement and current resume
• complete required mural painting courses (see above)
• achieve an overall 2.0 G.P.A. or better
Additional Online Certificate Requirement
• design and execute 3 residential/commercial murals, or 1 residential/commercial mural and 1 community mural and submit proof of fulfillment requirements for each mural

Students that receive the Mural Painting Certificate are eligible to apply for a listing in the directory of artists on the Public Art Resource Project website.

Refer to each new semester's course brochure for elective choices. Electives rotate and do not all occur in one semester.
